The Goddess of the Grave was most ancient of all. She
came from an early Greek island culture whose script, if they had one, did not
survive. So she, like the Snake Goddess, comes to us in silence, and rests with
us in our final moments. Her pose and shape acknowledge the coldness and
rigidity of death, but they also promise rebirth in Mother Earth.
