Dedicated to Mildred, Charlie, and Lulu
The Crone Speaks:
I am your Grandmother
The Mother of Mothers
Come to me, my dear one
Let me hold you in my arms
Tell me how you feel
Then feel the glow of your beginnings
Feel the touch of
all creation
Feel how I love
Come to me, my dearest one
For I have loved you from the moment
you were born
And I will love you
all your life
No matter what
You are always
My dearest child
The Empress is a large comfortable woman. She is brown-skinned to signify the earth, life on earth and life made flesh. She is all of these things and more. She gazes lovingly down at her cupped hands in her lap. The glow of green life surrounds them. The green is the generative life force itself, what pulses through all creation. And her dress is blue for the womb of the sea and the canopy of heaven.
This is the Grandmother. The Mother of All Mothers. The source of all miracles and mothering powers. The mothering we’ve received in the past may not have been all we’d hoped for, but the Empress reminds us it's never too late to know love.
The Empress holds the world in her hands. She holds each one of us in her hands. We can sink into her lap, her bosom, and she will hold us as long as we need her to. She is giving and she is joy. How she loves all her creations. Love and joy and creation and peace are all one in her. This is the power of Love. This is the power that rejoices in us. Under gaze of the Empress, we feel recognized by the Universe as a special being. Though her powers are vast and deep, her creations multiplied, still we feel we are important to her. That she sees us and knows us and rejoices in our being. In our children and our lovers. In our art and our work. In all our caring relations.
The Crone in her journey has sprung from Nothing into Something, and opened Space for something More. Love is the power of the Universe to give that More, Her desire to create and to care for More, and the willingness She has to give a part of Herself into each of Her creations, into each one of us. Each of us has a piece of her heart as our heart.
So for today we place our hearts into the Grandmother’s hands. Everything we touch today, we touch with love. Pets, family, friends, our homes, our bodies. We touch with love. Know that to love is to invoke the powers of the Empress into our lives. And to create and rejoice is to sustain her presence.
